And then, there was Cut Copy.

Days they go slow, nights they go fast… wait, that’s not Cut Copy.  But it’s definitely how the past few weeks have progressed.  And then, on Friday, there was Cut Copy.  The energy of the crowd was high early and from the first note of the opening act, Holy Ghost! (Which of course must be said in your best Eddie Izzard voice) Stubbs turned into the best dance party Austin has seen in the past few years.  Holy Ghost! were great.  Their appreciation of the crowd’s playfulness was clear and their performance benefited from it. I liked Holy Ghost! before.  I think I like them-like them now.

And then, there was Cut Copy.  The lights dropped and the crowd went crazy.  Nobody Lost / Nobody Found, Lights and Music, Feel the Love, Hearts on Fire, Need You Now, Take Me Over… one and after another every person, every beat, every word, everyone in step.  And the lights, woof.  A giant door drew much attention, centered on the stage and changing colors as often as Cut Copy changes tempo. And then it rotated exposing an LED screen with some of the prettiest images you’ve ever seen at a concert.  Simple, clean and crisp, just like Cut Copy.  What a show and what a crowd!

Here’s a tip: for the last four or five years, the Australian & New Zealand music scene has blown up unlike any other region I’ve ever followed. The music coming out of this region speaks to me like it’s Madchester all over, though that’ll have to change to something like Melborn-ica or Sydne-thizer. Cut Copy is but one of a dozen groups you should know about from these two countries. Those not aware of the others, ask or research now! Or, be LEFT BEHIND!
